Be thinking of more Logo choices for the shirts

“Toys for Tots” Campaign – December SSAC Meeting
This is the December campaign to collect
toys for children who cannot afford a Christmas. All toys must be brand-new and
not taken out of the package. The Marines will pick up the toys and distribute
them to the children, remember to get your schools thinking about this drive!
SCOPE (March 13, 2009)
We have decided to attend SCOPE this year in
Nashville even though March 13 is a teacher-in-service day and therefore we have
no school that day. For those of you that weren’t at the last meeting SCOPE is a
larger version of the Student SPEAK OUT for school counties across the state,
but keep in mind, only 2 students from each school may attend. Keep your fingers
crossed!
III. Questions & Answers – Dr. Jim Scales, Superintendent
Some of the questions brought to Dr. Scales’s attention were:
Why is there no charging this year?
Warning bells
Dr. Scales also informed us of an opportunity to
sponsor a Guide Dog in the Goodwill Dog program. It costs $25,000 per dog to
complete his training but if every school works on it that is only about $0.50
per student, keep that in mind! The SSAC agreed to sponsor the dog and next
month a representative will be present to discuss with us more about the
program; they were not able to attend the October meeting because Will, one of
the guide dogs, had caught cold.
IV. Next meeting – Monday, November 10, 2008 – Board Room
The next meeting the following topics are up for
discussion:
§ “Toys for Tots”
§ Decision on Logo and T-Shirt color for SPEAK OUT
§ Why students are no longer allowed to charge lunch
§ Goodwill Guide Dog program
§ SPEAK OUT topics and facilitators
