Team News

Welcome back to OMS!  We are excited to be part of your child’s Middle School experience.  Teamwork is the key for making your child happy and successful at school.  “Together Everyone Achieves More” means the student, parent and teachers form a valuable team.  The following information will ensure that we can work together as a team for the benefit of your child.

Parent/Student Tips
Organization fosters confidence that is needed for a successful day of school.

  • Check the handbook daily.  As assignments are completed, check them off in your handbook.  Check for notes from teachers, and initial each day that you examined the agenda mate.
  • Monitor your child’s organization.  Check notebooks and backpacks for organization weekly.  Make sure your child is in appropriate dress code clothes each day.
  • Contact teachers immediately if your child does not seem to have any homework or graded papers.  You will also be given a password to check online your child’s progress.

Discipline-Classroom
To ensure a successful learning experience, the student must exhibit positive classroom behavior.  We intend to reward the students for good behavior.
Expectations:

  • Be prepared with paper, pencils, handbook, textbooks and assignments
  • Be on time to class
  • Be respectful of the teachers, students and property
  • Be in dress code at all times

Discipline-Team
Our goal is to intervene and correct the behavior before an office referral becomes necessary.  The Mountain Climber teachers have developed a system for using a punch card that will be kept in the agenda mate at all times.  This allows parents and all teachers and administrators to keep track of the student’s behavior and comings and goings.  A new, blank card will be issued every nine weeks.  The following symbols can be found on the card: Hall (passes to leave the room), Tardy (late to any class), HW (no homework turned in) and Behavior.  Consequences:  These can be found on the back of each card.  The card is to be kept in the agenda mate at ALL TIMES or it is considered lost!!

  • Lost Cards:
    • You will lose one week’s worth of punches for each card given.
      • 1st Lost Card= No dress down
      • 2nd Lost Card= loss of privilege, no dress down
      • 3rd Lost Card= office referral, no dress down
  • Tardies:
    • 2 = no DD, 4 = after school detention, no DD, 6= referral, no DD
  • Homework:
    • 2 circled= no DD
    • 3 circled and 1 punch= after school detention, no DD
    • 3 circles and 2 punches = referral, no DD
  • Behavior:
    • 1st punch: Team conference, no DD
    • 2nd punch: Parent Phone Call, no DD remainder of nine weeks
    • 3rd punch: Parent, student, Team, and Administrator conference
    • 4th punch: Office referral

Rewards:

  • Dress Down Day
  • Attendance at special events – field trips, free time, movies, Reward Fridays
