Science News:

Science students have left the Universe behind and traveled to the world of Physical Science, where we will study energy in all of its forms.  Soon, we'll be using sling-shots and bows to model elastic potential energy, and then we'll use water and pinwheels to show how a turbine works in a hydro-electric dam.  Dr. Shock from EPB will bring us two hands-on labs about electricity, and we'll soon be celebrating a Chemical Energy Day.

Social Studies News:
The Cracker jacks Social Studies classes have covered The Five Themes of Geography, Jobs in Social Studies, and learned many interesting facts about China, Egypt, India, Mesopotamia, and some map skills which are continuous throughout the school year. Although looking forward to the holidays we are also looking forward to learning how important a role the Hebrews, Phoenicians, Greece, Alexander the Great, and The Roman Empire had on our society in which we live. Please reload your student with supplies to carry us through till Xmas. Thank-you for a great beginning!!!

Notice: We are no longer having Study Island for Social Studies homework, note we will later have it.

Mathmatical News:
Students on the Cracker Jacks team are learning many new helpful skills for everyday life, and reviewing some 6th grade skills. TCAP will be arriving before we know it, and we must be prepared. Currently we are learning many things, but to name a few: Fractions, Decimals, Percents, Addng, subtracting, dividing, and multiplying fractions. We are all working our best. NOTICE: Prents, expect your children to come home with math homework, everyday. No news currently for math class, but expect to see some soon. We will keep you updated through out the year!

Language Arts News
Students on the Crackerjack team are not slowing up on work. Mrs Stewart along with Mrs. Whitecotton are mainly focusing on the basic fundementals of Reading and Writing. Just a month ago the children completed their first Personal Narratives of the semester. Now they are finsihing up on the editing and revising of their new I Believe statement essays. Every completion of any essay or stories deserves a celebration, which is just what Mrs. Whitecotton and Mrs.Stewart do. we will be having our celebration on Thurday and anyone is welcome!

Also

This Friday, your child has their first end of book project due.  In the future, they will complete one of these projects every time they finish a book in Reader’s Workshop.  In general, it should not take more than 30 minutes to do this work.  Work need not be typed.  The projects will be scored for content, more than anything else. Projects that are purely writing should be about one-two pages hand-written.
We are also continuing work on our 6th grade research projects.  Please support your child in this effort by checking their progress, buying necessary materials, and helping them research if needed.
