§ Technology Education The Hunter Middle TSA attended the Tennessee TSA State Conference at the Chattanooga Marriott and Convention Center March 4-7, 2007. The TSA members competed against other students from across the state of Tennessee in technology related events. Those attending the conference were Chase Phillips, Candace Jones, Carter Daniel, Jackson McClain, Landon Wilson, Jordan Moses, Kody Bright, Shelby Claude, Grace Gill, Abby Mann, and Brad Spurgeon. Brad Spurgeon and Kody Bright competed in Challenging Technology Issues, a debate event in which they had to present the pro’s and con’s of a chosen technology issue. Carter Daniel and Candace Jones designed and built a balsa wood tower in Structural Challenge. Jordan Moses and Kody Bright designed and built battery-powered cars that had to climb a steep hill in the Transportation Challenge event. Candace Jones created a resume and cover letter, and she participated in a mock job interview in Career Challenge. Jackson McClain and Abby Mann designed and made CO2 dragsters that raced in the Dragster Design event. Chase Phillips exhibited his electrical knowledge by testing in the Electrical Applications event. Jackson McClain and Carter Daniel designed and made gliders out of balsa wood in the Flight Challenge event. The goal was to launch them and have them stay gliding in the air as long as possible. Carter’s glider stayed up quite a few seconds. The team of Candace Jones and Chase Phillips cleared balls from a gaming table into a bucket using a mechanical arm made of simple machines in the Mechanical Challenge event. Shelby Claude and Grace Gill created a show board and participated in an interview about their subject (a vaccination for women to help prevent cervical cancer) for Medical Technology Challenge. Jordan Moses and Landon Wilson used their knowledge of origami to create a box that would hold beans and not open upon impact with the ground for the Problem Solving event. Shelby Claude created a multimedia presentation that included video, still photos, audio, and music for the TSA Multimedia event. All students competing did an excellent job. Abby and Jackson’s dragsters made the top 16. Candace Jones was a top ten finalist for the Career Challenge event. Grace and Shelby were top ten finalists with their Medical project. Shelby Claude was third place in the state with her multimedia presentation in the TSA Multimedia event. Candace Jones and Chase Phillips were second in the state in the Mechanical Challenge event. Congratulations to all these participants. |
