Harrison Elementary School
The Mission of Harrison Elementary is to develop all students into responsible, well-rounded citizens by fostering a safe, nurturing, and disciplined environment that promotes academic rigor, character development, and a sense of the greater good.
Harrison Elementary School's vision is that teachers, administrators, students, parents, and the community collaborate to promote student excellence through:
|
Creating an atmosphere that promotes productive habits of mind and spirit.
|
Establishing a school environment that is reflective of a true community school.
|
Challenging and equipping all children of all people to become productive members of society. |
Harrison students participate in a ninety minute block of Balanced Literacy at all grade levels, supported by a rich Book Room of diverse literature selections. Students engage in the Lucy Calkins Units of Study for Teaching Writing and use Six Traits Writing to assist in monitoring progress. Time is spent each day working in Everyday Math and students participate in FASTTMath technology to enhance skill mastery. Harrison follow the Tennessee State Standards to map curriculum in Science and Social Studies.
Harrison is a school on the move. Promethian Boards are used in several classrooms and more technology purchases are planned. Parent volunteers and area churches have assisted in giving Harrison a "facelift" adding new color to hallways and classrooms. Art students from Central High School are adding mini-mural designs to the walls. Students interested in pursuing a career in teaching have used a class offered at Central High to allow them to gain valuable first experiences and insights into the field as they work in our classrooms with our teachers and students.
Harrison's school day begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 2:50 p.m. Breakfast is served starting at 7:30 each day. There is a dress code, but no uniform is required at Harrison. Harrison's dress code is as follows:

Harrison has a long and rich history in the community. The mascot is the Cougar and school colors are purple and silver. Harrison is a very family oriented school and finds several times during the year to bring families together for events such as Fall Festival, Math Night, Winter Concert, Literacy Night, and PTA meetings.
Harrison students have high hopes, high expectations, and high achievement. This is strongly supported by Harrison's NO BULLIES ALLOWED program. Behavior expectations are clear and a rubric is in place to manage any infractions that may occur.
