A Day in the Life of a Civil War Musician
Fifth graders had a great opportunity to learn about music in the Civil War when Mr. Seane Crews visited and shared his love the mountain music art that began with the Civil War soldiers. Mr. Crews shared how a mountain dulcimer came into existence and how one is made. He followed with Civil War songs, tunes, and tales as the students sat awestruck with amazement at the endings of the tales. Mr. Crews also shared a mountain banjo with the classes and how it was made during the Civil War era. He also shared some tunes with the harmonica while keeping the students engaged with music and singing. The students enjoyed their participation in learning the Civil War songs and listening to Mr. Crews’s Civil War tales. Thank you Mr. Crews!!
