Fourth Grade traditionally begins the upper grades in elementary schools.  This year will bring many changes.  Your child will begin receiving letter grades in science and social studies.  Organizational and responsibility are key to success when moving from class to class.  Talk to your child daily about what they are learning in these and every subject.

We believe if you can read you will succeed.  All fourth graders must keep a daily reading log. This log documents the books being read and the time spent reading independently.  We encourage students to read at or slightly above their independent reading level.  By reading increasingly more difficult selections, they will gain growth in reading comprehension skills.  We offer incentives to encourage and motivate our students to read.  We are also lucky to have a P.T.A. which offers fabulous incentives each semester and a prize store throughout the year.

Fourth grade reads
Sign of the Beaver for its core task each year.  You may purchase this book for your child or they may use a class copy.  All reading and writing must be completed in class.

Fourth graders in Hamilton County complete a Benchmark Task each spring.  The task incorporates research. Note taking, and persuasive writing.  The final product is a friendly letter.

Fourth graders can join the chorus beginning the second nine weeks of school.  Your child will bring home a permission form.  If you sign up, be prepared to attend a few concerts during the year.
